(Durham, North Carolina) DesignHammer’s redesign of the Divers Alert Network (DAN) website was recognized with a Silver Award in the 2021 w3 Awards competition by The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA) for exhibiting web design excellence within the Associations category.
The latest w3 award was a result of collaboration between world-leading dive safety association Divers Alert Network (DAN) and DesignHammer, who consolidated three of their disparate web properties into one user-friendly WordPress website with an engaging theme and custom design. DesignHammer employed user research tactics including tree testing, to determine the information architecture and navigation of the multi-award-winning Divers Alert Network website. To further DAN’s organizational goals, the final theme, features, and design elements of the new website were carefully crafted to effectively deliver information related to Divers Alert Network membership and their dive accident insurance policies, and to increase engagement opportunities with the Divers Alert Network userbase. As a product of collaboration, strategy, and user-centered design, the consolidated Divers Alert Network site featured a unified web presence with a consistent brand identity and user experience throughout. In addition to receiving accolades from a number of award organizations, the Divers Alert Network website redesign also prompted a substantial increase in new member joins and renewals following launch.
The w3 Awards is a prestigious digital competition that recognizes and honors outstanding websites, marketing, video, mobile sites & apps, social media campaigns, and podcasts created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers, and creators worldwide. The annual competition is sanctioned and judged by the AIVA, an invitation-only body of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms. The AIVA maintains that the w3 Awards is the first major web competition to be accessible to the biggest agencies, the smallest firms, and everyone in between, and emphasizes that small firms are as likely to win as Fortune 500 companies and international agencies.
Award-winning w3 submissions must “perform extraordinarily in the face of several judging criteria including creativity, usability, navigation, functionality, visual design, and ease of use.” All entries are judged and scored on a 100-point scale, with fewer than 10% of entries achieving a Gold Award. Other submissions classified as outstanding by the judges are recognized with a Silver w3 Award. Other notable 2021 winning submissions were commissioned by Amazon, Forbes, and Red Hat Marketplace.
