This week’s beer tasters: Jay, Paul, and Frank Every Friday at DesignHammer, we take time after a long day of designing cutting edge websites for a gourmet beer tasting. This week Frank selected Rogue’s Chatoe Single Malt Ale for us to sample. Chatoe Single Malt is part of Rogue’s GYO (Grow Your Own) line of craft beers which feature locally grown barley and hops.
“Single Malt Ale has a malty aroma and is deep golden in color with a dense creamy head. It is medium bodied with a lush rich maltiness from the Dare™ malt. Single Malt Ale and all Chatoe Rogue brews are all made with Rogue’s hops and malt from their Department of Agriculture's Hopyard and Barley Bench.”
Rogue crafts a variety of ales, porters, stouts, lagers, and spirits each with a their own unique innovative character. Rogue beers and spirits have won recognition across the globe for their quality, innovation, and craft. “Looks good,” Frank noted, holding up a glass to the light. “Yessss,” Paul concurred. “Oh my goodness!” Jay exclaimed, “I like the color.” “Oh, it smells good.” Jay decided after taking a sniff, “It smells citrussy. Have we had this before?” “Nope,” replied Frank. “Have you drank any yet?” Jay asked Paul. “No, I'm still smelling it!” On his first sip, “It's bitter!” Frank exclaimed. “WOO! Yup.” Jay echoed, “Yeah. I was not expecting that!” After a moment's savoring, “Oh, that's good,” Jay decided. “It is good,” Paul agreed. “No bitter face?” Frank asked. “No, not at all. It's like.. mmmmm.” Jay replied. “When you take a sip it's really light, but then it hits you with this full bodied back of the tongue bitterness. It doesn't linger too long.” Sipping again, “That's nice.” “If you want a super hoppy summer beer, this is it. It's light, refreshing, with tons of flavor.” Noting Frank's reaction, “Poor Frank. We'll get something that has tons of sugar in it next time.” “Ha. Ha.” Frank responded.
