Tree Testing is a Usability Testing technique that ascertains the efficacy of the existing or a proposed navigation structure for your website, through representative users performing specific tasks. Tree Testing is commonly conducted using online tools, which reduces geographic limitations, time commitment, and facilitate aggregation of results.
Representative subjects are presented with a series of tasks and are directed to indicate where in the navigation structure they expect to be able to solve the task. By testing with several users, we can identify potential navigation problems or gain confidence that the proposed navigation is easy for your target users.
Beyond simply success or failure, our tools also provide insight into the directness (or lack of directness) participants of responses, which provides additional insight into how confusing the proposed navigation is in relation to the provided tasks.
