The ‘five second test’ helps you determine the most memorable and visually prominent elements of a web page. A screenshot will be captured from your website and submitted it to a service where online reviewers see the image for five seconds. In one version of this test, after five seconds have elapsed, reviewers are asked to list anything that they can remember from the front page.
In another version of the test, reviewers are asked to select the most important elements of a page for five seconds. The reviewers are then asked to briefly describe their selections.
While this test may sound simplistic, the results generated by a five second test are very helpful in understanding first impressions that your website or web page generates. After reviewing the data over several weeks, we will have a good understanding of how most people initially react to your website. This information will allow us to provide recommendations for the reorganization content and layout on a page to improve your website’s usability.
