Durham-based DesignHammer is seeking undergraduates, and graduate students for paid internships. Experience building and maintaining standards compliant websites a must. Candidates will assist DesignHammer staff in designing user interfaces and graphic elements, coding HTML/CSS templates, building new static and database-driven websites, as well as maintaining existing websites.
Founded in 2001, DesignHammer is an award winning full-service web design and development firm that builds smarter websites for smart companies. Our clients — public and private companies, as well as non-profits and government agencies — rely on DesignHammer for an Internet presence that helps them differentiate themselves from the competition. We design, develop, and host websites of varying complexity, including online stores, content management systems, and email-based marketing.
DesignHammer is a 2012 and 2013 winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility for its use of flexibility as an effective workplace strategy to increase business and employee success; offering a fun, casual work environment in a bright, cubicle-free office, with flexible hours, and other perks.
Candidates must be available to work at our Durham, NC office. Ideal candidates would be able to work at least 16 hours per week. Successful Interns will have the opportunity to transition to part-time or full-time staff positions.
Job responsibility will include:
- Collaborating with DesignHammer staff to design custom user interfaces and graphical elements based upon client consultation and feedback
- Code standards compliant HTML/CSS templates
- Build new static and database-driven websites
- Maintain existing websites
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Competent in graphic design, color theory, layout and typography for the Web
- Proficient with Adobe applications
- Experienced in hand-coding valid HTML, CSS (JavaScript a plus)
- Experienced in WordPress or Drupal theming a big plus
- Able to communicate with clients, and manage their workload to meet shifting deadlines
- Looking to play a major role in shaping the online presence of major regional organizations
- Willing to play well with others
